2024 Asbestos Register – Jackson House (Building 24)

The 2024 Inspection found asbestos has been removed from the ceilings, walls, cupboards, shower cubicles, and contaminated fixtures.
Ceilings, walls, floors, hot water systems, and other affected areas have been reinstated. This ensures that all internal asbestos has been removed from the Jackson Building.

Visual and laboratory evidence of the tiles located at the northern end of the building within the covered stairwell contains asbestos.

The 2024 Vinyl floor tiles have been found to contain a low concentration of Chrysotile asbestos. Previous reports, conducted before the development of electron microscopes, falsely indicated no presence of asbestos in a floor sample. The below image, captured through a scanning electron microscope, reveals the asbestos fibres in the vinyl floor tiles.

The photo of the north-west elevation of the Jackson House depicts a potential water-related building issue. It appears that the corner water area may need repair or replacement, likely due to rusting of the tin sheeting. In the event that asbestos sheeting needs to be removed, an Asbestos Removal Control Plan (ARCP) will be necessary to safely remove the material to the manufacturer’s edge.
